Professor
of mathematics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His area of research
interest is in group theory and the combinations between it and other areas of
mathematics: number theory, geometry, combinatorics and computer science.
Professor Lubotzky, who holds the Weil Chair in Mathematics, is a prolific
author of articles and books whose name appears on the list of most cited
scientists (ISI) in the world. He has been awarded many academic prizes and
honors in Israel and around the world and
has served as a visiting professor at universities including Stanford, Yale,
Chicago, Columbia, Princeton, and others. Professor Lubotzky is a member
of the Israel Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and
Sciences. He is also active in the public sphere: He served as a member of the
14th Knesset, participated in several of its important committee, and is known
for his arbitration activities in the area of religion and state.
Professor Lubotzky holds a PhD degree in mathematics from Bar-Ilan University,
received in 1979.
