Professor of Sociology at Tel-Aviv University and past Dean of the Faculty of Social Science. He is past president of the Israeli Sociological Society and at present he serves as secretary of the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP). His areas of interest include social inequality, migration and ethnic stratification, and comparative survey research. Recent publications addressed such issues as migration and wealth inequality, public attitudes toward the welfare state, the incorporation of Arab citizens of Israel in the labor market, and the work-family nexus. His research has been published in a variety of journals including American Journal of Sociology, International Migration Review, European Sociological Review, Journal of Marriage and Family, and Research in Social Stratification and Mobility. Prof. Lewin-Epstein received the PhD from the University of Chicago in 1982.
